THE FRENCH government is to fund a major study into sexual behaviour, starting this summer. Some 20 000 French citizens are to complete confidential questionnaires that are intended to help health planners to predict the spread of HIV and to improve AIDS prevention campaigns. Alfred Spira, an epidemiologist for the government, announced the details of the study last week. He and his colleagues will coordinate the research for the National Agency of Research on AIDS. Spira would not say how much the survey will cost but said the health ministry had provided all the necessary money.
